How They Function
Wireless surround sound systems work like any other system. The biggest difference is that they come with a receiver and a transmitter that allows the speakers to work without physically being connected to the system through wires and cords. The sound will travel from the stereo to the transmitter. The receiver will than pick up the sound waves and transmit it to the speakers.
Advantages
Obviously the biggest advantage is that you are not restricted by many wires running all around. When you use a wired system you are forced to put the speakers in a specific spot in the room. With no wires to contend with you are free to put them behind the couch or up on the wall. They can be anywhere as long as they are at least 150 to 300 feet from the transmitter.
Different Technology
There are many different types of systems that you can purchase. The higher the price is the better the technology will be. Now you can find systems that use satellite technology to pick up the sound waves. This works much in the same way as a Bluetooth phone headset. These are much more expensive – but they do help to reduce the amount of static that can be picked up through the signal.
